Government fails to appoint new Dispute Resolution Adviser

A government tender process to appoint a new Dispute Resolution Adviser to supply enhanced and amalgamated mediation services for the Franchising Code of Conduct, the Horticulture Code of Conduct, the Oilcode, and the Produce and Grocery Industry Code of Conduct has concluded unsuccessfully.

Despite being specifically recommended by the Department of Industry and Tourism (RET) in its 2009 report of Trade Practices (Industry Codes – Oilcode) Regulations and the Federal Government budgeting $2.1 million over four years from 2010-2011, for these new services, the 6 month tender process has failed.

The Government’s attempts to centralise these services in the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research has not resulted in these industries getting better services at the present. While the Department is considering its options, the dispute resolution services under the four codes will continue to be delivered by the existing supplier.
